My Homemade Power Supply

by Keith

Before starting on my Homemade Power Supply project I wanted to be sure that I could make this work.  Coming in, I didn’t know anything about how to do this and I didn’t know anyone that had done anything like this.  Thankfully, I found a great online guide, with videos and great step by step instructions.

Having a detailed resource along with videos gave me a lot of confidence to give this whole thing a try.  My wife definitely thought I was crazy since I’m NOT a handyman whatsoever.

However, my homemade power project wound up going really well

It didn’t take long to get several solar panel built and installed and before I knew it, I had my own homemade power supply.

I relied heavily on my guide, especially for what resources to buy and some suggestions on where to get them for cheap.

Once I got the parts I needed, I pretty much just followed the steps that were laid out in the guide.

Overall, I’m very proud that I went ahead with this homemade power project and made it a reality.  I’m saving money every month AND helping the environment.

If you’re thinking about doing something similar, then go for it.

Get a good resource like this one – Homemade Power Guide

Take their advice on what supplies you need and where to get them for cheap

And finally get to work building and installing your solar panels

You’ll be happy with the outcome.  And email me with your success stories!

Homemade Energy – Is it work it?

by Keith

This site is all about homemade power supply and  one question I get often is ‘does it really make a difference?’

The easiest way to see the difference our homemade power is making in our lives is in our energy bill.

I went back and reviewed some of energy bills from last year and they are WAY down.  As a safe estimate, we are saving 40% per month on our energy bill.  This adds up really quick folks!!

One great thing about homemade energy is that you do the work upfront and then can reap the benefits every month.

But money wasn’t my only motivation for taking on my homemade electricity project.  I definitely considered the benefits of going green and the positive impact it would have on the environment.

And, I’m not a scientist, but based on the numbers I’ve seen, the amount of energy used by just 1 family per year is huge.  So, with our reduced dependency on the grid, I can confidently say that we ARE making a difference on the environment.  Everyday, our home uses renewable resources instead of coal to generate our electricity!!

So, was it work it?  You bet – I learned a lot, save money every month and am making a difference.

Homemade Power Supply – The Benefits

by Keith

This is why we even take the time to consider homemade energy, right?  The benefits…

Well, I find that producing my own homemade power supply is very freeing.  It’s similar to people that switched from SUV’s to hybrids or other cars that gets great gas mileage.  They were no longer at the mercy of gas prices – the same is true when you produce homemade p0wer – there is a very freeing feeling when you know that much of the energy you are using in your house is free.

For most people, there are 2 major benefits to do it yourself power:

1)  You save money every single month

2)  You make a positive impact on the environment

These 2 points are not necessarily in order as they will be different for everyone.  Some people are very passionate about making an impact on the environments while others are looking to save money every way possible.

A little bit more on these 2 points:

1) There will be some up front costs, but you can minimize these and start saving money right away.  I recommend that you get an online guide like this one to help you save money (it helped me save hundreds).

2) Don’t under estimate how much you are helping the environment.  Just the energy you are saving in one year is significant, but you will see that once your neighbors, friends, and family see you producing homemade energy, they will get on board too.  Before long you will be helping others set up their homemade power supply too!!

If you’ve gotten this far in the blog, then go for it.  Save money and make a difference for 0ur planet, start today.

Homemade Power Supply

by Keith

Just like green energy, homemade energy is very exciting for me.  When I refer to a homemade power supply, I’m referring to energy that you are creating at home, separate from the utility company.

And I like to specifically refer to the energy that I generate as a homemade power supply because I am actually supplying my home with a significant amount of power.

In general our homemade power supply comes from one of 3 sources:

1)  Solar Energy generated by building or buying solar panels and then installing them at your home.

2)  Wind Energy generated by building or buying a wind turbine and installing it.

3)  Battery generated power

You’ll noticed that I mentioned buying or building.  Either way you go, you will be helping the environment and will save money in the long run.

And I should say, I know there are other homemade energy options.  For instance, I know someone whose house is completely dependent on geothermal energy, but the ones I mentioned above are the most accessible to average folks like me.

Doing the build yourself will be the cheaper route so that is what I’m going to focus on here.  If you don’t know what you’re doing (like me when I started) I suggest buying a guide (here’s the best I’ve seen) – it’s way cheaper than purchasing your panels or turbine outright and it will take you through every single step you need to do the setup.

I’m most experienced with homemade Solar Energy and homemade Wind Energy.  I’ve seen first hand how easy it can be to get them setup and running and just how much money they can save.

Basics on Green Energy

by Keith

Quick aside from my focus on creating homemade power supply to talk about green energy in general.  Let me start by saying, I find green energy really exciting.  The software company I work for uses 100% green energy – mostly geothermal with some wind power too.

When we talk green energy, we are referring to sustainable and renewable energy.  Basically, we are talking about energy that isn’t a total drain on the environment.

Now, I’m excited about green energy, you may not be, so I won’t bore you going into a bunch of details.   For this blog, we are looking for green energy that translates to homemade power, so I think of 3 requirements

1)  Is it easy on our environment to produce this energy?

2)  Are the resources needed to produce this energy renewable (ie. don’t run out) ?

3)  Can it be obtained at a low cost?

If the answers to these questions are yes, then we’ve got a type of ‘green’ energy on our hands that we are interested in.

The main reason I even bring this up is that when we look at different homemade energy options we are going to be choosing a type of green energy and then looking at way to produce that power on our own.

Background

by Keith

Welcome friend, I’m Keith and I’m here to share some tips, tricks and maybe even a little inspiration related to producing your very own homemade power supply.

A quick note about me – I’m a husband and father of 2.  We live in the suburbs of Cincinnati, OH.  I wouldn’t classify myself as an ‘environmentalist’, but I am passionate about doing my part for then environment.  My friends thought I was crazy when we decided to use  cloth diapers on our kids, but just like homemade energy, saving money and helping the environment made it seem like a good choice to me.

Anyway, I’m getting off topic here…

I’ve had success producing a substantial homemade power supply, the energy is renewable and cheep so I’m here to share some of my knowledge.
